Referrals & Fees

Claiming a Rebate

To claim a rebate under the Medicare Better Access Initiative, you will need to obtain a referral from your general practitioner. If you meet the criteria, your GP will complete a mental health care plan under the Better Access initiative.

Find out more here: https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/better-access-initiative

Typically you will be eligible for a rebate for a maximum of 10 psychology sessions in one calendar year. A report is required to be sent to your GP after each referral block.

After full payment, your rebate of $129.55 (as of 1 July 2021) will be then be processed and deposited back into your bank account by Medicare.

To claim the Medicare rebate for your sessions you will need to provide a copy of your doctor’s referral under the plan, by your first appointment. If you are unable to provide your referral you will be required to pay the full fee for the session. We prefer referrals to be sent to us via fax or email, before your appointment. Otherwise, please bring it along to your first appointment.

No referral is needed if you plan to have private sessions or are claiming through your private health insurance.

The fee for an initial consultation is $245. Subsequent consultations are $230. Sessions are 50 minutes. Non-business hours, including Saturday appointments, attract a surcharge of $10.
